Review

Music Catch is a simple game with a quite original gameplay, that has music as its main attraction. The idea is to get a high score by capturing the musical notes that emerge from a sort of line moving around the screen at the rhythm of a song. When music starts to play, musical notes of different colors will come out from this line, and the goal is to catch as many as we can by passing the mouse over them. Special shapes like the yellow patterns will make our cursor grow bigger, allowing us to catch shapes more easily, while the purple shapes will turn our mouse into a sort of magnet that will attract and catch shapes on the run. We have to avoid touching the red shapes, as they will only reduce the score and the size of our catcher.

Playing this game is very easy, maybe too easy; we only have to collect the shapes by moving the mouse back and forth, while avoiding contact with the red shapes, that’s all. Once a level is completed, which is the same as saying when the music is over, a new song will be unlocked. The game comes with a number of music compositions in piano, however, one of the best things about it is that we can load our MP3 files and play with our favorite songs, which is great because it allows us to experiment with different rhythms, pitches, and levels of loudness, giving us the chance to set the game level of intensity. In addition, another aspect to highlight is the visuals. Musical notes look like neon lights emerging from a black background, giving the game a quite a hypnotic effect.

All in all, Music Catch is an interesting pastime, with an original idea, but way too easy to play.
Advantages
  • Original.
  • Great visual effects.
  • We can load our MP3 files.
